AAU/Competitive Basketball
AAU/Competitive basketball is taking basketball to the next level for 4th-8th grade boys and girls. Teams are generally formed when a coach is interested in starting a team.
- Tryouts are held for competitive teams and cuts will be made if there are too many kids or their skill level isn’t where it needs to be for the team.
- Practice is twice a week usually at the MBJH gym.
- Games/tournaments are usually on weekends. SWISH league is generally where teams play for the season in Skagit Country and tournaments may be in Whatcom county or down to Seattle area. Coaches can determine participation in tournaments.
- The cost is about $400 and covers uniforms, and tournaments. It could be more if the teams decide to participate in more tournaments.
- Playing time isn’t guaranteed as it is in rec. Play time is earned with showing up, being a team player, having good grades, staying out of trouble.
The girls' season is September to March and boys' play October to March (all depending on tournaments chosen to play in)
Tryouts are generally held the first week of September for girls and boys the last week of September.
